Hallo Leute,
ZitatAlles anzeigenDear people of Mojang,
I really do love your game 'Minecraft', and got to know several people through it who I can consider being 'friends' with by now. With some of those friends I created a server for us and some players from the server we met on (that one got closed by the owner) and since that day we grew to be a nice little server where we simply build stuff. No special PvP, minigames or other specialized server - no, simply a place to build our creations and share them with our friends and some other people.
That server is by no means large - we prefer some cozy little place instead of anonymous clutterings of people. So as a result we don't really care about making money of that whole server-thingy but simply want to cover the costs of hosting - nothing more. We always have to fill the money we 'earn' by getting some scarce donations.
So simply because of that scarceness of donations I want to give donators some little neat thankyou - something that I myself really like doing while playing and building - that is flying around and not getting shot down by skeletons. So with the new EULA 'clarification' those functions given as thankyou's to donators are deemed being violations because of their gameplay changing trait (I wouldn't count changing daytime and weather into that simply because you can change those functions client-side or through using torches).
But on the other hand I don't want to only give purely cosmetic functions as 'rewards'. On the one hand you'd have to install dedicated plugins for those, like that pet-function on some large networks - I'd have to keep that one updated even though it wouldn't technically be needed. On the other hand cosmetics like nicknames, fancy rank titels or colors are already included in some basic plugins already installed - just like fly functionality and that 'god' function to not get attacked by agressive mobs or getting fall damage or whatever.
I built the server to still give players access to those fancy functions by giving them a dedicated 'creative' world were they can just focus on building amazing things. So you might ask yourself 'Well, everyone can use those gameplay features in that world, so simply remove it from the other, 'survival' mode worlds and we're fine'.
But I simply don't like it. I want to give donators some nifty little functions that the staff also uses frequently to help out other players and building. But I don't want everyone else using that as an excuse to play on easymode. Most people like a good challenge when confronted with it. Giving people (especially children with no patience) tools to get lazy WILL get them lazy. Those that got the gameplay-alternating tools for their donations were using them, but not in such a way that it got them some immense bonus. We still have restricted areas (like pvp arenas and such) were for the sake of fair competition those tools cannot be used. Also our most successful farmers ingame (as in farming resources) got them without ever having gotten those tools. Heck, even with godmode and flying donators still have to search their diamonds and such.
I would feel bad getting money from players and simply handing them out some rather useless cosmetic (useless in the sense of helping me in no way while playing). I'd prefer giving them some comfy tools that I myself already grew to love and use somewhat often.
I understand there are servers that make use of creating donator perks with laughable gameplay-changing effects, from getting access to 'exclusive' tools, creative mode, even staff ranks or your already mentioned 'soft currency for hard currency' model that I find stupid as hell. There is even servers that treat their donators in a really special way, making sure they continue to pay. Which I also find ridiculous.
So please reconsider your clarification on the EULA. We (as in 'that server I administrate') never wanted nor will want to really 'make some money' with hosting a minecraft server nor do we want to get users to get really unfair advantages over others, we simply want to cover the costs and give donators some little useful rewards by giving us a hand.
Greetings,
klebestreifen, an admin of a little comfy server
